AI has become the most hyped technology of 2019. What is in store for 2020? AI is considered to have a mind of its own. AI is made more complex by the fact that it involves ethics, so it is more difficult to regulate. With these complexities in mind, it is good to consider what is coming next in the AI journey in 2020.
AI becomes a talking point for the US Election 2020
AI impacts both the economy and worker’s rights. AI is generally regarded as improving global GDP and productivity. Gartner notes that business value will grow to $3.9 trillion by 2022. Enterprises are looking to exploit AI for major gains in business value, but there will also be attrition in companies who focus on using AI to sell solutions rather than focusing on value.
However, there are concerns about automating jobs away from American citizens. Other issues, such as Elizabeth Warren’s commentary about Big Tech mean that these debates will become more mainstream. Other issues include FAANG company regulation, tech taxation, and even the future of capitalism means that AI as part of the economy show the attention and concerns of US electorate.
AI gets more cognitive, increasing concerns for surveillance and privacy
The Financial Times notes that AI Voice-enabled speakers are increasingly commercial viable. In fact, China is overtaking the US in smart speaker sales. Organizations such as Baidu believe that Voice AI will become a consumer item, and with falling technology prices and increased capabilities, this is a key trend to watch.
In China, facial recognition are increasingly integrated with Government surveillance systems using solutions such as Megvii, backed by Alibaba. In the West, this has become a matter of heated debate, and it is anticipated that this will continue to grow, although at a lesser rate than in China.
Cloud enabled AI to increase enterprise adoption and scalable initiatives
Cloud leaders such as Azure and Amazon are enabling AI-centric solutions for enterprises. This is in line with US government initiatives to bolster AI innovation for enterprises to remain competitive.
AI Chips will become more commonplace
Manfacturers will focus on meeting the growing high-speed computing and robotics demand. For example, Intel have recently unveiled its first AI-driven neural network chip. In 2020, we can expect to see more focus on enabling AI in the data-centre with chips such as these.
AI Automation will become mainstream
Organizations such as Ocado and Amazon will continue to build and develop AI-enabled data warehouses.
Processes such as Robotic Process Automation in solutions such as ASG Technology’s Zenith Platform and Microsoft’s Power Automate will empower organizations to use AI to automate processes and we can expect adoption throughout 2020 and beyond.
