“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
I was lucky enough to visit ASG Evolve Customer Event in Dallas recently, which is ASG Technology’s partner event focused on presenting opportunities for customers and partners to learn about ASG technologies. The event was a good balance between learning and networking opportunities, and also hearing from innovative industry visionaries such as R “Ray” Wang on how they view the future of Digital Transformation.
ASG Technologies made a lot of exciting announcements. I was particularly excited about the dynamic trust scoring capability that the team have created, which is aimed at supporting organizations to identify trusted data. The patent-pending functionality is available in ASG Data Intelligence, which is a metadata management solution. Metadata management is crucial for data-focused disciplines such as artificial intelligence, data science and business intelligence. It is really tough for organizations to answer simple questions about their data, such as:
- What data is available?
- Where did the data come from?
- What is the level of trust on the data?
ASG conducted in-depth industry research to understand better how enterprises perceived trust. It became clear that trust is multi-faceted and it evolves over time. Trust evolves and develops organically over time. Therefore, it isn’t possible to have a “one size fits all” formula that will suit every organization. To meet these fluid needs, ASG have developed a next-generation trust model for data understanding where a data item’s trust is dynamically computed based on the value of one or more variables. These values are determined by logic and metrics, and this can be done using data within or external to the ASG Data Intelligence solution. The trust scores are tracked and measured over time, and the data can be used to determine workflow actions, which are set up using policies which are easy to set up.
What does this mean for your enterprise?
“Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.” ― Stephen R. Covey
If you know your data, then you know your business. However, you can only know your data if you can trust it, or at least know where the data cannot be trusted. It is also useful to know what data may be in the comfort zone, and which data can be used with caution. Leaders may want to push and prod at this data, in order to see if there is any value.
In order to be data-driven, trust enables data consumers to make better decisions. By being able to better identify, understand and trust available data, business users and data scientists are better placed to evaluate the data’s value for analytics, whether the analytics are conducted by humans or the analytics are AI/ML-driven analytics.
ASG’s Information Management solutions capture, manage, govern and enable companies to understand and support all types of information assets (structured and unstructured) and stay compliant – and trust is a big part of that. I am pleased that ASG is tackling this complex and nuanced issue, and I look forward to seeing what enterprises do so that they can trust their data, rather than sprinkling it with hope and pixie dust in the hope that the data is trustworthy.
